Reading Vivian Maier

describe it: i see a man and a woman. hands. held closely, almost hidden. held lightly as if the world could slip between them. silence. closeness. together, in love. on a busy road, waiting to cross. not alone. in the world together.

relate it: this reminds me of the older times. when love was love and people were together, face to face. it reminds me of a couple, like my parents, happily married. It interests me because I feel like it has a hidden meaning. It goes beyond the hands. they seem so innocent and peaceful. they are holding hands as if its habit, as if its fate.

analyze it: the color, or lack there of s brilliant. the stripes in the woman's skirt put together the grey and white of the man's. Id ask the Viv what drew her to this couple and if there was something more than what she captured. Id ask her what there faces held and if they were happy. If they were quiet or talking, if they were in love.

interpret it: the sounds in this photo are loud and chaotic around them but when you land on the couple, there is silence. kids are running, and the loud street noise from the road echoes but the couple isint worried. they are together. id title it : together lonely.

evaluate it: the goodness revolves around the hands and how that is the main focal point, what draws you into the photo. I would like to see a little of what else is going on though. I think she did a great job, with the colors, idea and capture overall.

describe it: this photo is dark. midnight. all is asleep. lights. signs. stores. water. a rainy day had taken place. puddles on the sidewalk. shadows cast over the water. reflection. silence, everywhere. light, dark. quiet.

relate it: this reminds me of a city asleep. walking home after a late night, and stopping to see the quietness. the closed shops, lonely roads, huge puddles. portland, in a way. the rain, the stores. I really enjoy the reflection and the colors used. the point of the water and lights are what drew me in. I like that the water is the center point and the details in the distance.

analyze it:
the water is both, quiet and far. It flows out, far. lights are in the distance. a few cars on the side. I think the most important thing is the feeling. and how cities are supposed to be full of people and the sidewalks are empty. i like the silence taken away from this photo.

interpret it: id title this : silence. because that is the overall take away i get from this photo. i could also name it : lost. I think that this is what lonliness looks like. A dark night, scarce of people, late, quiet. no hope.

evaluate it: I really like the capture of the reflections and the darkness. Id be interested what other feelings people could take away from this photo. and also the more hidden subjects, like the car and the buildings.

inquiry #15: Alfred Stieglitz

He was a German Jewish Immigrant
He also introduced the avant garde artist to United States
Stieglitz always wanted to have a soul mate of his own because he was very jealous with the closeness of his twin brothers.
